Situation analysis of charcoal dynamics

This study under the WWF's support, analyses the policy framework, energy/fuel switch to viable alternatives, production, trade and consumption trends within the charcoal sector. Based on the analysis, the study recommended strategies to begin addressing the problems associated with the charcoal sector. The strategies are centered around various initiatives to promote sustainable charcoal and fuel switching. Further, this includes the use of participatory forest management and carbon finance to change the way rural people produce charcoal while simultaneously assisting urban consumers in fuel switching to lessen charcoal demand.
